Stitches . . .

We've seen blood before, she's bonked her head many times, she falls every day multiple times (we have a pretty klutzy daughter), but yesterday Brooklyn ran head first into our coffee table (guessing by the look of the cut it was the corner).
It was about 4:30 when Mommy's phone rang at work. It was Daddy and he said, "can you come home? Brooklyn hit her head really hard and there is a lot of blood." (or something along those lines) Mommy grabbed her purse and put her shoes on (she takes them off 'cause her feet get hot) and headed for the door, only to turn back around and grab her cell phone, key badge and ipod and then made for the door again.
Driving between five and nine miles over the speed limit almost all the way home she found her baby girl being looked after so carefully by Daddy. He'd stopped the bleeding (thank goodness) so we could decide what we wanted/needed to do. After looking at how deep and big the cut was we headed for the Kiddie InstaCare clinic less than 5 miles away.
We waited there for almost an hour before we got seen. The told us she definitely needed stitches and we could either have them do it there, or we could go to Primary Children's Hospital where they would give her some sort of anaesthesia where she would be awake, but wouldn't remember getting the stitches. We thought since we were already there, we'd just let the instacare staff do the stitches. After wrapping Brooklyn up in a sheet so her arms were pinned to her body, starting to give the stitches with just the numbing cream, Brooklyn screaming, giving her some shots to numb the area better, starting the stitches again, not liking how they were looking, taking them out and getting ready to start over, Mommy almost fainting, we decided to head to Primary Children's.
After a 1 1/2 to 2 hour wait there, we got brought back to a room, waited some more, got an IV put in, waited some more with Brooklyn crying almost non-stop because her hand hurt with the needle in it, Daddy going out in the hall to demand some help, we finally had a four person staff, two doctors, two nurses give Brooklyn the anaesthesia that mostly made her body limp, but eyes open (so freaky, don't want to have to see that again) they started the stitches. They ended up having to give her a second dose of the anaesthesia because she was still crying and moving. Brooklyn had to have two deep stitches, and six regular stitches. Brooklyn was a trooper through everything, and all the doctors and nurses said she was really good for being only two.

(I would re-read my post to make it make more sense, but just writing it all once has my stomach in knots again, so I hope it sort of reads okay.)

Waiting at the InstaCare for the doctor to come in.

At the InstaCare with the numbing cream on her head.

Stitches the next morning.

Scooby Doo covering up the ouchie, makes for a much happier Brooklyn.

Holy cow!! That must have been so scary! Our kids have had their faces glued, but never stitched. Those forehead areas open up a lot, don't they? Is she leaving them alone?

What a trooper! And you guys too! ;)

So far she hasn't really messed with them. We are keeping them covered with antibacterial gel and bandaids (princess and scooby doo). This is just the first day, so we'll see how the next four days go until the stitches come out.

That is scary. I hate it when they are so young and don't understand why it is so bad and that they can't touch, etc. Give her big hugs from Uncle Mike and Aunt Becky. Let her know that we love her and are so sorry that it happened to her.

I am so sad you had to go through this. But it does sound like she handled it well for her age. And so did Mom and Dad.
